Armrest Fix for a Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Armrest fix for Jeep Grand Wagoneer

We’ve all been there when something on our 30(something) year old Jeeps stops working. In my case, it was the back armrests that needed some TLC.

I worked on the armrests one time before back in 2016. Back then, I added washers to the back side with epoxy because the plastic was brittle and breaking. Here’s the article: https://fourwheeltrends.com/?wagoneer-arm-rest-quick-fix/

That was then, this is now…

Today, the issue is more to do with the other side of the screw.

Specifically, it was going too deep into the door. It was going so deep into the armrest and then it was deep enough into the door to keep the door lock from working properly.

Here’s what I did to fix the armrest.

I went to the hardware store and picked up the finishing cup washers.

Typically, you would install it as shown in the photo. However, for my purpose, I turned it over so the smooth side could slide easily down into the armrest holes and get wedged tight to help hold the screws better.

These photos will tell the story…

As I mentioned above, be sure to put them in upside down. This makes them slide in better without damaging the armrest.

I put the screws in, pushing the washer deeper into the armrest hole.

Another tip is to screw these in by hand. You don’t want to go too strong using a power drill. That’s what got me into trouble the first time.

Here is a collection of additional photos for your reference.

In looking at the photos, my next project may need to be a little deep cleaning of the armrests. I guess I have been getting my hands a little too dirty doing these projects.

And finally, here is the finished product.

That’s it for this update, my friends. If you like it, leave me a comment below, if you hate it, let me know that too. Keep living the #JeepLife and send me some photos of your Jeep!
